Letters From the Founder — Week 1
The Little Girl With the Backpack
Some of my favorite childhood memories weren’t made on a playground.
They were made inside my father’s clothing shop.
Growing up, I didn’t go to the shop every day. But at least once a week, after school, my dad would pick me up because our home was too far away before he had to return to work.
I’d climb into the car with my backpack, knowing exactly where we were going.
His shop.
To everyone else, it was a clothing store.
To me, it felt like a second home.
I’d find a quiet corner to finish my homework while my father welcomed customers with the same smile he’d worn for years. Sometimes he’d bring me a cup of chai and a small snack before helping another family find the perfect outfit for a wedding or celebration.
As a little girl, I didn’t realize I was watching a lifetime of experience unfold in front of me.
I watched mothers carefully choose dresses for their daughters.
I watched little girls twirl in front of the mirror with the biggest smiles.
I watched my father listen patiently to every customer, never rushing them and always wanting them to leave happy.
When my homework was finished, I’d wander through the shop, running my hands over beautiful fabrics, admiring the delicate embroidery, beadwork, mirror work, and zari. I imagined what it would feel like to wear those dresses one day.
I still remember how exciting it was whenever my school announced a special dress day.
Since I wasn’t always able to visit the shop, my dad would bring several dresses home the night before and lay them out for me.
Choosing one felt like the biggest decision in the world.
The next morning, I walked into school feeling confident, happy, and just a little bit like a princess.
Not because my dress was expensive.
But because it was chosen with love.
That feeling never left me.
Years later, when I became a mother, I found myself searching for that same feeling for my own daughter.
That’s where Zeenat began.
Not with a business plan.
Not with a logo.
But with a childhood memory.
Today, every dress we offer is selected with that same little girl in mind—the one who wants to feel special, elegant, and confident while staying true to her values.
Because every little girl deserves to feel like a princess without compromising modesty.
Thank you for reading the first chapter of my story.
Next week, I’d love to tell you about the lesson my father taught me without ever realizing he was teaching it.
